What is a proxy? How can I use it?

This article has no technical character. The goal is simple and clear to give you an idea how it works proxy server for our site. In other words, how easily and quickly breakthrough any limitations to access pages that have no direct access.

What is a proxy server?

When you open any website, you or just your web browser, connect to remote server where the page that you want to see. In this case, client-server connection is direct, and only between you and the server.

Proxy server is an additional item that you add, between you and the server which is website that you want to see. I.e. client-server relationship in normal conditions, when using a proxy server becomes a client-proxy-server type. So the proxy server is the client that opens and view files on the remote server and proxy relays all this information to you when you do not have direct connection to the server or your access is prohibited.

Example: You are in Germany and want to open the site Zamunda.net, which is available only in Bulgaria, and in principle you do not have access in Germany. You do have data (coordinates) for the proxy server is located in Bulgaria and can open Zamunda.net without problems, since both are the same territory. Then you configure your browser to use the Bulgarian proxy. When you try to re-open the site Zamunda.net, your computer first connects to the proxy server, which in turn connects to the site Zamunda.net. And since you have free access to the proxy, which in turn has access to the site you want to open this connection between you is now feasible with the help of proxy. Information from the site, traveling in the same way, but in reverse order to you, ie: Zamunda.net – proxy – you.

Types of proxy servers

Here we look at two basic types of proxy servers that you can use to open inaccessible pages:

- Web proxy servers
- IP based proxy servers

Web Proxy

Web proxy servers do not require any additional configuration. They work as a virtual browser in which you enter the page you want to open and press the button Open. Then the Web proxy connects to the page you want to visit, take its content and displays it to you.

An example of such a server is precisely website bgtorrentz.net. When, on the home page, you enter the site URL in the box web-proxy, for example: www.google.com, web proxy retrieves the content of this page and submit it to you. It is important to note that all information that passes through the proxy is not stored anywhere, but simply relayed between the two countries. Since this is a relatively new technology that is still being developed and improved website that you open using the web proxy will not always look and function the way it would look like if you open your browser directly, rather than a virtual one.

The convenience of Web proxy servers is that you set yourself which sites can access through a proxy without having to configure anything. So important sites, like e-mail accounts, online banking and other sites and services that you open will continue to work on behalf of your Web browser and your own IP address and computer.

IP-based proxy servers

IP-based proxy servers operate at nearly the same principle as web proxy servers hide your identity and represent you on behalf of another computer, namely the proxy server.

To use this server you must enter the IP address of proxy server and port is running in the configuration of your web browser. Once done, from here on every page you visit in your browser will use a proxy server when you open or access. This poses its own risks when opening is not well-protected email accounts, online banking sites and other important websites, storing your personal data.

Example: How to configure proxy server in your browser to the IP address as 10.20.30.40 and port 2233

- Internet Explorer – open menu Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections and press the Lan Settings. Put a check mark to Use a proxy server and enter the IP address and port, the proxy server you will use.

- Firefox – open menu Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network, press button Settings, put check to Manual proxy configuration and enter the IP address and port of proxy server to use.

- Chrome – Google Chrome uses the system settings configured in Internet Explorer. To configure a proxy server, see above how to do this for Internet Explorer.
